An Ultimate Guide to Install LVT Flooring

Choosing the right luxury vinyl tile flooring can be overwhelming due to the various options available. LVT has become a popular choice due to its versatility, durability, and affordability. However, choosing the wrong LVT flooring can make things worse.

When it comes to flooring installations, budget LVT is an affordable choice. It is becoming popular as a DIY project, and with professional help, an even more polished appearance can be achieved. In this guide, we will understand the installation process of LVT flooring.

Understanding LVT Layers

LVT is designed to copy natural flooring designs such as wood and ceramic tile. It is available in a wide range of timeless and trendy designs, either tile or plank. The easy process of installation is making it a popular choice, along with minimal upkeep.

LVT is made up of layers that are:

Backing layer: This layer offers stability, and other layers are on top of it.

Design layer: A variety of patterns are made on this PVC layer using high-definition photography, imitating natural materials like wood.

Wear layer: It is clear vinyl layer. Some tiles use aluminium oxide for extra protection. It is the top layer that protects from wear and tear.

LVT Installation Process

Luxury vinyl tile flooring is a great option for anyone who wants a practical floor that is easy to install and moisture-resistant. The following are the steps for properly installing LVT flooring:

1. Floor Preparation

Remove all furniture from the room and clean the floor. Look for any bumpiness on the surface, such as swellings of concrete or anything that would hinder the flat laying of LVT. For a new concrete floor, make sure that it is fully dry. LVT can be laid on almost any hard surface, as long as it is clean, dry, and flat.

2. Adjusting LVT

LVT flooring can shrink or expand with temperature changes, so acclimate the tiles for up to 2 days before installation. Lay the vinyl tiles in the room in which they will be fitted, allowing air to circulate under each tile.

3. Consider Direction for Your Layout

As the rooms are rarely perfectly square, plan your layout beforehand to identify where to cut the tiles. Place the tiles on the floor and make sure the pattern aligns with the corners. Draw lines for clarity and precision.

4. Cutting Vinyl Tiles

Once you have understood the room’s layout, start cutting tiles. Start by placing the tiles on the lines you draw. Keep space for your grout lines, and keep placing full tiles everywhere they fit. Measure the space around the corners and cut the tiles accordingly.

5. Spread the Glue

Spread the glue using a paint roller. Read the instructions on the glue you purchase; each glue has a time to sit before applying the tiles.

6. Start Laying Tiles

Start laying the LVT flooring on the adhesive, placing it in the direction that you want. According to glue guidelines, keep spreading the glue and laying the tiles in your desired pattern until the floor is covered.

7. Maintain Your Flooring

It is not the end of the process; taking care of the floor is important for long-lasting flooring. It’s important to keep LVT flooring clean and dry for durability and longevity.
